  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 6 1x

Description

A simple and delicious pasta dinner perfect for the whole family. This recipe features tender pasta with a flavorful tomato sauce, seasoned ground beef, and melted mozzarella cheese.

Ingredients

Scale

12 ounces dried penne pasta
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 pound ground beef
1 medium onion, finely chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 (28-ounce) can crushed tomatoes
1 (6-ounce) can tomato paste
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon dried basil
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
8 ounces shredded mozzarella cheese
2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley

Instructions

Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the penne pasta and cook according to package instructions until al dente, about 10-12 minutes. Drain and set aside.
While the pasta cooks, heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 4 minutes.
Add the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until browned and cooked through, about 7-8 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Bring the sauce to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked pasta with the meat sauce and grated Parmesan cheese. Mix well.
Transfer the pasta mixture to a 9×13 inch baking dish and spread evenly.
Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the top.
Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Remove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley before serving.
