  • Total Time: 6 hours 15 minutes
  • Yield: 6 1x

Description

A simple and flavorful slow cooker recipe featuring a whole chicken cut into pieces, cooked until tender and juicy with aromatic herbs and spices.

Ingredients

Scale

1 whole chicken (about 4 pounds), cut into 8 pieces
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon paprika
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon dried thyme
1/2 teaspoon dried rosemary
1 medium onion, sliced
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 cup low sodium chicken broth
2 tablespoons olive oil

Instructions

Pat the chicken pieces dry with paper towels.
In a small bowl, mix together salt, black pepper, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, dried thyme, and dried rosemary.
Rub the spice mixture evenly over all sides of the chicken pieces.
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
Add the chicken pieces and brown them for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown. This step is optional but recommended for extra flavor.
Place the sliced onion and minced garlic in the bottom of the slow cooker.
Arrange the browned chicken pieces on top of the onions and garlic in the slow cooker.
Pour the chicken broth over the chicken pieces.
Cover and cook on low for 6 hours, or until the chicken is tender and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F).
Carefully remove the chicken pieces from the slow cooker and serve hot.
