Description

Shrimp and Grits is a classic Southern dish that combines creamy grits with succulent shrimp, creating a comforting and flavorful meal.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup grits
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 4 slices bacon, chopped
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Chopped green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a pot, bring 4 cups of water to a boil and add the grits. Reduce heat and simmer until thickened, about 20 minutes.
  2. While the grits are cooking, in a skillet, cook the chopped bacon until crispy. Remove and set aside, leaving the drippings in the skillet.
  3. Add the shrimp to the skillet and cook until pink, about 3-4 minutes. Add garlic, paprika, salt, and pepper, and cook for an additional minute.
  4. Stir in the butter and cooked bacon into the shrimp mixture.
  5. Once the grits are done, stir in the cheddar cheese until melted and creamy.
  6. Serve the shrimp mixture over the cheesy grits and garnish with chopped green onions.

Notes

  • For a spicier version, add cayenne pepper to the shrimp mixture.
  • Use low-sodium broth instead of water for more flavor in the grits.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
