Patty Melts with Secret Sauce is a delicious twist on the classic burger, featuring juicy beef patties, melted cheese, and a unique secret sauce, all sandwiched between perfectly toasted bread.
Ingredients

- 1 lb ground beef
- 4 slices of rye or sourdough bread
- 4 slices of cheese (Swiss or American)
- 1 medium onion, sliced
- 2 tablespoons butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
- For the secret sauce: 1/4 cup mayonnaise, 1 tablespoon ketchup, 1 teaspoon mustard, 1 teaspoon pickle relish
Instructions
- In a bowl, mix the ingredients for the secret sauce and set aside.
- Form the ground beef into 4 equal patties and season with salt and pepper.
- In a skillet, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat and add the sliced onions. Cook until caramelized, about 10 minutes.
- In the same skillet, cook the beef patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until cooked to your desired doneness.
- During the last minute of cooking, place a slice of cheese on each patty to melt.
- Meanwhile, butter one side of each slice of bread. In another skillet, toast the bread until golden brown.
- Assemble the patty melts by spreading the secret sauce on the unbuttered side of the bread, adding the patty with melted cheese, and topping with caramelized onions. Close the sandwich with another slice of bread.
- Serve hot and enjoy!
Notes
- Feel free to customize the toppings with lettuce, tomato, or pickles.
- For a spicier kick, add some hot sauce to the secret sauce.
- These can be made on a grill for a smoky flavor.
