Description

A quick and easy version of the classic French onion soup, perfect for a comforting meal.


Ingredients

  • 4 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 1 cup white wine
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 baguette, sliced
  • 2 cups shredded Gruyère cheese

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, heat olive oil and butter over medium heat.
  2. Add the sliced onions and sugar, cooking until the onions are caramelized, about 15-20 minutes.
  3. Pour in the white wine and beef broth, bringing the mixture to a simmer.
  4. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Place the baguette slices on a baking sheet and toast in the oven until golden brown.
  7. To serve, ladle the soup into bowls, top with toasted baguette slices, and sprinkle with Gruyère cheese.
  8. Broil the bowls in the oven until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
